As a Backpacking Specialist with our Windy Peak Overnight Camp, you will do exactly that by guiding kids on multi-day backpacking adventures. You will spend the majority of your summer leading a group of campers to different campsites each night all while teaching campers teamwork, Leave No Trace principles, and how to unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. Important Details
Work Schedule: Overnight camps are a 24/7 operation. The leadership team will create a schedule that provides you with one evening off/week and segments of other time off throughout the week.
Position Duration: Training takes place in Colorado May 16 - 29; overnight camp programs run from May 31 through August 1.
Compensation: Pay is determined based on position, additional responsibilities, relevant certifications, and staff tenure. Starting hourly are below:
Backpacking Specialist: $528/week
$350 BONUS for Wilderness First Responder/EMT Certification at end of season
Additional bonuses for advanced certifications: $125 - $400 per certification
Your Background
Must be at least 20 years of age at the start of training.
By the start of training, must have an active CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR, EMT, or W-EMT) certifications
1+ years of experience leading multi-day backpacking/camping trips in a professional, volunteer, and/or personal setting.
Valid drivers' license is required. All staff will go through a 2-day 15-passenger van driving training during your first week of employment.
Job Duties
Provide 24-hour support with guidance, supervision, safety and comfort for participants during all activities.
Co-lead daily outdoor programming including mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, SUPing and Leave No Trace principles.
Organize and participate in camp programming, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals
Follow and educate campers on safety protocols to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants
Serve as a role model and guide campers by exhibiting appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities
Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs.
If you are a trained Driver, transport up to 13 campers to and from program areas with company passenger vans.
Candidates with increased experience in one or more of our core sports may serve as a program area expert (i.e., as a Specialist) either supporting multi sport camps or instructing single sport camps in: climbing, mountain biking, whitewater paddling, or survival skills.
Your Background
Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of camp for all positions
Drivers: Must be at least 20 years of age, 3-year valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record
+1 years of experience working with kids in a professional or volunteer setting preferred
Experience in our core sports is highly preferred, but not required for all positions (required for Specialists)
Must Have Wilderness First Responder or EMT Certification plus CPR
