About this opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Divisional IT Manager II, the Sr. Network Administrator is responsible for supporting the Potomac Division’ network infrastructure and phone system (e.g., servers, routers, communications hardware, and software, etc.). The incumbent proactively addresses issues to eliminate problems, responding to and resolving trouble tickets for CAC and locations in the state of WV. The incumbent participates in planning design to improve computing experience. He/she manages, maintains, and supports the Active Directory environments for the Potomac Division. The incumbent supports and maintains LAN/WAN networks, is responsible for the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems, and performs administrator and support functions to ensure availability, functionality, security, and performance. The incumbent provides Tier 3 or higher Help Desk support to the above-mentioned locations and is also responsible for supporting mobile devices including research, completing, and submitting requisitions, testing, troubleshooting and deployment as needed. The incumbent serves as a technical resource to management by working to ensure that business processes and systems (computers, printers, copiers, telephones, cameras, Cisco VoIP, and video conferencing) etc.
The incumbent will spend two (2) days a week in the Charleston Area Command and the remaining three (3) days are spent working remotely to include travelling to assigned locations.
Key responsibilities:
• Analyzes, tests, and resolve problems relating to mobile computing devices to ensure device functions properly on the network.

• Controls and sustains local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) along with application operability and software utilization review.

• Planning, installations, programming and configuration of firewalls, routers and associated hardware and software used to maintain data links between Territorial Headquarters, Divisional Headquarters, and divisional field locations in conjunction with the Divisional IT Manager II and Director of Network Services.

• Serves as a technical expert for the establishment of new network environments throughout the Southern Territory as requested by the Director of Networks; provides direction and assistance to the Potomac Division regarding appropriate connectivity with Territorial Headquarters.
• Evaluates new networked computer programs to ensure effective interface with specific products; determines user requirements and translates into functional and logic specifications for implementation.

• Maintains all VPN and communication services within the Division and the Southern Territory.

• Research solutions to establish and maintain WAN data links between field offices and Divisional Headquarters to provide shared database access, e-mail, and internet access

• Implements and upgrades to Divisional IT infrastructure and services in conjunction with the Manager and the Director of Network Services.

• Resolve problematic activities for LINUX/UNIX and Wintel implementation equipment and monitoring to resolve problems across multiple independent standalone networks within the Potomac Division.

• Manage inventory lists warranty status, IP schemes, router configurations, and network documentation.

• Recommend and evaluate hardware as necessary.

• Provides Tier 3 support to the Potomac Division, including analyzing, troubleshooting users’ complex problems involving various networks and distributed computing environments to ensure resolution of issues based on help desk escalation requests.

• Provides technical support to System Managers in the resolution of hardware, software or application programs; assists in the resolution of these problems by interfacing Territorial Headquarters software development staff and hardware and software vendors.

• Visiting sites provide a high level of expertise and technical assistance, investigate and resolve problems.

• Provides technical support to computer operations, programming staff and a help desk to meet business needs.

• Controls accurate, effective, and timely back up of all server information; monitors and evaluates the quality and integrity of the backup information; ensures the necessary backup capacity is maintained; troubleshoots and resolves any back-up issues.
