Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Senior Manager, BDS Air Proprietary 1 Digital Infrastructure Segment (DIS) Engineering Leader set to join the team located in Berkeley, MO. 
 

The Senior Manager, BDS Air Proprietary 1 DIS Engineering will serve as a leader for a high-performing, cross-functional and multi-disciplinary team responsible for developing next-generation, state-of-the-art digital capabilities. This position reports directly to the Air Proprietary 1 Chief Engineer and DIS Program Manager, serving as a key member of the program Engineering leadership team, and will lead the Engineering teams within the DIS Product Team. 

This Engineering Leader will manage employees and mid-level managers across multiple engineering disciplines within the DIS, including Software Engineering (DevSecOps, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Systems Engineering (Requirements/Architecture/Design, Application Support), Data Science, and Product Security Engineering while also partnering with the DIS Cyber Security and Information Technology teams.


The selected candidate will hold full Responsibility, Accountability, and Authority (RAA) for establishing the DIS engineering vision and executing all DIS engineering deliverables outlined in the program’s statement of work. Key responsibilities for the DIS engineering team include architecting, developing, maintaining and continuously improving enterprise scale protection level 3 (PL-3), hybrid cloud/on-premise classified digital infrastructure while ensuring technical excellence and compliance with engineering standards.

The role will require the ability to plan, organize, and direct activities to meet cost, schedule, and performance goals. This includes defining technical approaches with subject matter experts, coordinating resources across functional areas, and managing technical subcontractor activities to align with program objectives.


Additionally, the role involves establishing strong relationships with program customers and stakeholders, implementing an effective team operating rhythm integrated with the broader program schedule, and fostering clear communication and collaboration. The leader will develop and track performance metrics to measure technical and business outcomes, manage Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting and analysis, and oversee risk, issue, and opportunity management.


The ideal candidate will champion a team culture of transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration to achieve successful program execution. As a part of this engineering senior manager role, the responsibility to define, disposition, and incorporate the capabilities of all legacy tools will be required as part of the digital transformation and development of the program engineering DIS.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages engineers and managers across the multiple engineering disciplines that comprise the DIS engineering team

  • Acquires resources for the DIS engineering organization, including technical management of DIS engineering suppliers

  • Collaborates with high-performing, cross-functional teams to define an integrated technical strategy in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to drive productivity for the architecture and its implementation.

  • Champions use of Development Excellence methodology, technical design reviews, and integrating expertise to achieve DIS engineering solutions.

  • Integrates strategies to define and achieve the development, deployment and ongoing enhancements of the DIS.

  • Leads integration with BDS digital architecture solution to drive predictability and stability in its program performance, technical definition, and deployment.

  • Establishes governance and consideration of standard tools, processes, and legacy architectures to yield step change improvements in digital engineering capabilities.

  • Serves as primary technical model-based and digital engineering focal to help shape future acquisitions and operationalize capabilities necessary for the competitive landscape.

  • Provide technical, cost, and schedule performance oversight for the DIS engineering team, implementing Program Management Best Practices to ensure alignment with performance goals.

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives and goals to ensure a common direction for the team.

  • Develop and implement plans to communicate status, performance, risk, issues, and actions to stakeholders.

  • Promote rapid resolution to issues, ensuring minimal impact on program performance.
