Career Advancement serves a student population of approximately 6,000 arts and sciences undergraduate students, in addition to alumni who have graduated within the last five years. Career Advancement plays a vital role in ensuring our students’ success after graduation. Career Advancement offers innovative and comprehensive career development services focusing on pre-professional preparation, experiential education, and access to internship and full-time opportunities. Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Careers in Climate and Energy will utilize industry knowledge and program management skills to scale up programming and resources designed to prepare students for successful careers in energy, climate, and related fields in alignment with current market trends. In addition, this team member will work closely with campus partners including the University of Chicago’s Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth; Committee on Environment, Geography and Urbanization; the Institute of Politics; the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering; and the Physical Sciences Division to deliver comprehensive, best-in-class career support for students across a wide variety of majors.

The Assistant Director will also engage with hundreds of employer partners as the leader of our climate and energy portfolio. They will manage recruiting partnerships with top research institutions including Argonne National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in addition to working closely with industry-leading firms, NGOs, and non-profits to develop student career opportunities. This team member will also organize and execute events, develop impactful workshops and experiential programs, provide one-on-one advising for students, and support the management of outcomes reporting.

This position requires a passion for impacting students through career services and advising, strong relationship management skills, and the ability to think strategically about program management. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and talented individual contributor with a record of success in complex, fast-paced environments where collaboration is critical to success.

Responsibilities

• Supports the development and implementation of a cohesive strategy for student success in climate and energy careers through early engagement and ongoing support.
• Collaborates with team leadership to design and implement sector-specific career programs and resources, drawing on deep industry expertise and connections.
• Organizes and leads programs and workshops highlighting opportunities in climate and energy career pathways, such as cohort programs, competitions, and global career exploration trips.
• Builds and maintains a portfolio of employers in public, private, and non-governmental sectors to drive internship and full-time job opportunities.
• Connects students with research opportunities in both academia and industry.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with campus partners and faculty.
• Provides high-quality career advising to undergraduate students and recent alumni through one-on-one career advising sessions.
• Provides a high level of customer service and support to employers.
• Assembles resources to assist students in gaining experience in key skills related to data analytics, quantitative research, market analysis, and related technical skills.
• Analyzes placement and survey data to develop data-driven strategic initiatives.
• Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
• Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
