The Opportunity
Our Research Assistant supports the West Haven R&D facility with project processing – there are many elements to this role with both office and pilot plant responsibilities. Our Research Assistant will be able to support our Innovation efforts by tracking intellectual property, supporting scientists with prototype development from creation to delivery of prototype. They will also support our efforts in customer’s R&D projects. They will maintain and update various logs to ensure we are compliant with regulations. This role will be a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in Food Science and Innovation. This permanent position will report to the R&D Manager.
- Prepare new cap-ex consideration documentation, entering approved capex purchase requisitions, tracking project expenses, keeping current capex reports. Also keeps track of traveling and other expenses per account.
- Extracting reports from SAP and other systems as system as needed.
- Track and maintain Intellectual Property
- Support research scientists with projects (packaging & shipping prototypes to global recipients)
- Support the pilot plant with larger scale projects trials
- Enter requisitions for all products, supplies, equipment, contracted research and research materials purchased.
- Enter and update Internal Product Specification Sheets.
- Enters yearly budget per account in the main frame based on information provided by R&D managers.
- Schedule monthly safety meetings for the R&D group.
- Maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for lab areas as required by O.S.H.A.
- Schedule building maintenance for labs to remain in compliance with current safety regulations.
- With our travel agency, coordinate flights, hotels, car rentals for the R&D staff and guests to the R&D location.
- Enter R&D weekly summary on SharePoint.
- Creates project reports and presentations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Attend meetings as requested to document notes and assigned task.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
The Skills you will bring to the team
- Must have an Associate’s Degree in a Science Based discipline
- Laboratory or Plant experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.<
