About the role

Introduction

We are looking for students who want to work with the latest production methods and, at the same time, help to create a more sustainable world. At Scania we call this Driving the Shift. This means that we take a leading role in developing climate-smart solutions by creating sustainable, environmentally friendly products.

Working as a student at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life. Many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project.

Background

The Transmission Machining department at Scania is strongly committed to optimizing machining tool usage and enhancing cost efficiency. Tool cost reports, which track expenses both in total and per produced product, are actively utilized to identify cost-saving potentials. To further strengthen this effort, the department is working towards a standardized approach to pinpointing high-impact tools and implementing measures to reduce costs effectively.

Objective

Enhance the existing method or process framework used by Scania’s Transmission Machining department to systematically identify machining tools with significant cost impact and implement cost-reduction measures. This enhancement should focus on refining evaluation criteria, improving data collection and analysis processes, and incorporating more advanced methodologies for cost optimization.

Job description

The job will involve gaining a comprehensive understanding of the available reports used to track tool costs, analyzing how process planners utilize these reports and other methods to identify high-cost tools, and assessing current practices for cost reduction. Additionally, the work will focus on enhancing the existing process framework to optimize cost reduction efforts, ensuring a more structured and effective approach to minimizing tool expenses.
