About the role

We are looking for an experienced energy researcher to write a new Ember flagship report tracking global clean power commitments to 2030. Ember has a reputation of forward-thinking on the global electricity transition, researching on the big issues that reshape the narrative and accelerate the global electricity transition.

Your mission is to research and write a new annual flagship report on tracking global clean power commitments to 2030. This will be a key report to be released ahead of COP28 and subsequent COPs. You will achieve this by data-led research, with the support of a data analyst and the rest of the global insights team. You will also release smaller releases throughout the year.

You will need to have a proven record for researching and writing high quality and insightful data-led analysis. You will have extensive support from across the Ember team on analysis, data, dataviz, comms and advocacy.

Working with our Global Insights team, reporting to Ember’s Global Insights Lead, this is a remote role, with occasional travel to Ember’s London office, and an annual team meet-up at a minimum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of senior staff, lead on the research and writing of a new annual flagship report on tracking global clean power commitments to 2030, and smaller releases on the same subject through the year.
  • Leverage your work across a wide variety of stakeholders. You will be expected to conduct media interviews and webinars, meet with CSO’s, and to build a broad network that you are able to use to create impact and influence.
  • Support on research and writing for other Ember clean power research including our annual flagship Global Electricity Review (full-year published in March, and half-year published in August).
  • You will actively share ideas with the Global Insights team in order to help shape our strategy.

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in using research and data to impact the energy transition, with a track record in producing high-quality and insightful data-led analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven experience of working successfully in cross-cultural, remote teams.
  • Passionate about clean energy.
  • Fluent ability to work in English
  • An effective networker with the ability to identify opportunities to initiate new connections and to build a strong network in the energy and climate space.

Nice to have

  • Extensive experience of media engagement across a range of platforms.
  • Fascination with data and data visualisation, to complement Ember’s strong Data and Dataviz teams.
  • Knowledge of electrification of transport, heating, industry etc
  • Fluent ability to work in another language

Benefits

Salary: Competitive
Contract: Full-time (but only working 9 days every fortnight with no reduction in pay), permanent subject to a 3-month probationary period. For employees based outside of the UK, a local payroll contract is available, dependent on the country.
