Role and Responsibilities

The role of the Mobile R&D at Samsung Electronica America is to support our customers (MNO’s) in launching latest technologies with Samsung devices and validate carrier’s requirements as a part of development testing to secure software quality. The dynamic culture at Samsung offers both great challenge and great reward.

The Mobile R&D Testing Team is looking for a Professional, Wireless Protocol Test Engineer to perform SW verification based on carrier requirements, Samsung specifications and telecommunication standards for mainly 5G/LTE models and assist in design development and debug mobile device issues identified through log analysis. The ideal candidate is an individual 6+ years of experience on 5G NR/LTE/IMS protocol field test background composed of Software development and project management.

  • Responsible for leading verification & validation of software design, requirements and functionality for projects under development, by providing issue debugging and log analysis.

  • In-depth knowledge of testing, creates, extends, and executes automated/manual test plans to verify Wireless Mobile operation and to validate new UE/Network features on various carrier networks.

  • Drive field test trials for new technology features and software applications in live networks of US carriers based on 5G/LTE technologies, before the commercialization.

  • Analyze test data, debug failure logs, find the root cause and coordinate with R&D teams in resolving wireless features and protocol issues.

  • Create test plans by analyzing carrier requirements specifications and 3GPP specifications to ensure products compliance with Requirements.

  • Research in complex experimental test programs and test frameworks to thoroughly evaluate functionality, design requirements, operational capacity and customer performance expectations. Assist R&D team in analyzing test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

  • Identify opportunities to improve the manual field test scope, such as automation of test data generation, test execution using automation scripts and development of test scripts using Python coding.

  • Communicate effectively and interface proactively with Internal (R&D) and External (carrier/network/chipset) teams in different geographical regions and time zones to es

  • Ability to travel sporadically during the project; up to 20%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in EE/CS/IS required, M.S preferred

  • 4+ years of relevant industry experiences or related occupation requiring telecommunications engineering, or any suitable combination of education, training and /or experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience in Wireless System Testing, Functional, Certification, IOT and/or Cellular System Performance.

  • Strong experience in defining, developing and validating cellular modem system and application test cases for mobile devices.

  • Strong experience with Android and smartphone platforms and knowledge of Qualcomm/Samsung AP/MDM Chipset Architecture.

  • Strong technical knowledge of tracing and debugging tools used for logs analysis and troubleshooting (e.g., QXDM, QPST, ADB, Wireshark tools/Another Chipset tool etc.)

  • Previous experience in end-to-end procedures used for voice and data call establishment, mobility, and interworking with core network entities.

  • Experience with system engineering activities such as feature requirements identification, feature description doc
