Open Rank, Neurointensivist - Neurocritical Care
University of VirginiaAbout the role
Description
The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks applicants for a tenure-eligible faculty position for a Board-certified or eligible Neurointensivist in the Neurocritical Care section of the Hospital Medicine Division. Responsibilities include collaborative clinical care, participation in clinical research, and associated teaching activities in the Nerancy Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NNICU)/Neurointermediate care unit (NIMU) as well as management of critically ill patients on the NNICU consult service. There may also be responsibility in a planned eNNICU service in health system ICUs. Rank and tenure status are dependent on qualifications, experience, and scholarly achievement.
The University of Virginia Nerancy Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NNICU) is a state-of-the-art intensive care unit that serves patients with neurological and spinal diseases and injuries. The NNICU treats patients from all over Virginia, as well as patients with complicated diagnoses throughout the country and abroad.
Our 12-bed ICU cares for patients in a closed-cooperative model with physicians predominantly from Neurology and Neurosurgery. Neurointensivist in-house 17 hour-a-day coverage [2 shifts] on weekdays is supported by 24-hour in-house resident/APP/fellow coverage, which distinguishes this service from others in Virginia. In addition, the NNICU has the first ACGME-certified Neurocritical Care Fellowship training program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Along with a 12-bed neurological intermediate care unit (NIMU), dedicated neuroscience nursing floors, acute stroke unit and a state-of-the-art epilepsy monitoring unit, the ICU is a critical link in the continuum of hospital care for neurology patients. UVA is the only Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level 1 Trauma Center in Central Virginia with a robust Telestroke network that serves an area of hundreds of square miles.
The University of Virginia is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, a setting with natural beauty at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains a short distance from Washington, DC, and Richmond, VA. Charlottesville is a vibrant small city with an extraordinary quality of life and cultural opportunities due to its diverse population and proximity to the University. It is often ranked among the best places to live in the United States.
