JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Director of Finance provides high-level strategic and operational leadership and insight, while simultaneously performing hands-on operational activities of day-to-day finance and accounting, including financial control, budgeting and auditing, reporting, modeling and forecasting, profitability analysis, AP/AR, 401k and payroll administration. This role is responsible for creating and implementing operational best practices, processes and systems to continually support growth, enhance internal financial reporting, drive business process review, reliability, and efficiency. The Senior Director works closely with the Owner and the CEO (executive leadership) to identify, monitor, and troubleshoot the financial wellness of the Company. The Senior Director reports to the CEO.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and lead financial planning and analysis, including revenue forecasting, expense management, and capital allocation.
- Prepare and review unit forecasts and budgets to ensure executive leadership, GMs, and operations team are provided with guidelines of performance that are both reasonable and achievable; analyzes and interprets financial results in order to assist and advise the GMs and the operations team.
- Work closely with executive leadership on formulating and implementing the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives, innovation projects, strategic planning and long-term investments to maintain revenue growth, sustain margin profile and manage working capital.
- Prepares an overview of financial data, analyses, and results to executive leadership weekly, to include an analysis of strengths and weaknesses, and proposed action plans where necessary.
- Develop, monitor and analyze financial metrics and strategies, and develop the KPIs needed to assess the health of the business and make data-driven decisions.
- Prepare and maintain accurately compiled monthly and ad hoc financial reports and analyses with full supporting detail on the Company’s financials including profit and loss, forecasts, budgets, balance sheets, and cash flow; identifies variances, makes recommendations for improvements as appropriate, and develops performance measures that support the company's strategic direction.
- Ensures timely reporting of operating results and maintains the integrity of the management information system.
- Develops and manages a real-time financial dashboard for the Company.
- Coaches GMs regarding their financial responsibilities and effective financial management techniques by creating and implementing relevant KPIs and metrics to ensure their success.
- Provide input and leadership on issues affecting the company, such as project profitability, business partnering opportunities, and acquisitions.
- Collaborate with other departments to drive operational efficiencies and cost savings initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements and financial best practices.
- Monitor and manage risk and legal issues affecting the industry and/or the Company.
- Ensure adequate controls are installed and maintained for the protection of the property’s assets against loss or misappropriation.
- Ensure all legal, treasury, and tax documentation is properly maintained and secured, and that all statutory and fiscal reporting requirements are satisfied, which includes any governmental requirements for permits and licenses.
- Prepare timely and accurate sales, use, and occupancy tax returns as well as any other external reports or returns as deemed necessary.
- Negotiate and manage contracts and relationships, strategic alliances and preferred vendor arrangements, including leases.
- Acts as plan administrator for the Company’s 401k plan, providing oversight of the plan to ensure appropriate management (investment options, account fees and costs, etc.) and compliance (reporting, non-discrimination testing, auditing, etc.).
- Oversees Payroll administration for the organization; ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and federal rules, regulations and laws.
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous feedback and improvement.
- Provide ongoing performance management, training, and advancement opportunities to the team for growth and development.
- Consistently expands technical knowledge/skills and keeps up to date in own area of expertise.
