As a Project Assistant (Biological Science Assistant) in Wizard Falls Hatchery, in Camp Sherman, Oregon, you assist in the implementation of the statewide inventory project to provide quantitative assessments of habitat in streams and standing waters and information on species composition, distribution, and abundance of fish in streams.  Some of the duties will include:

  • Describing channel morphology and instream habitat characteristics

  • Assessing distribution and abundance of juvenile fish

  • Locating site with a map, compass and global positioning system (GPS)

  • Keeping accurate and clear data records

  • Hiking into and along streams daily. (Walk 0.75 – 1.5 miles of stream daily 4 days/week)

  • Working in hot, cold, rainy weather and over rough terrain

  • Communicating with the public to explain monitoring activities

  • Working on a two-person crew on streams within a specific geographic area
