Community Advocate & Resource Specialist

Here’s What You’ll Be Doing:

• Assists with access and determining eligibility for a comprehensive range of benefits, privileges, and legal rights. Assists with applying for Medicare and Social Security.
• Plan and execute community engagement events and activities regarding domestic violence and sexual assault issues.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure the effective delivery of services to communities.
• Provides advocacy services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, including developing strategies to enhance safety and increase knowledge of community resources. Assists clients with obtaining temporary restraining orders and helps by providing legal advocacy to victims.
• Responds to calls and maintains FCP DV/SA hotline. Responsible for providing emergency assistance by making immediate assessments of needs and making referrals to other community resources.
• Incorporates cultural teaching activities into domestic violence and sexual assault preventative programming (Healing circles, cultural activities)
• Transports clients as needed to activities that are within the scope and education of domestic violence or sexual assault, and other identified clients.
• Provides support to guardianship clients by educating them on services and resources offered by FCP Tribal and coaching guardians in the independent use of community support.
• Assists with home safety checks and client visits.
• Assesses, reports, and makes appropriate recommendations for any indication of abuse or neglect.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, or related field, or four years of social services and case management experience
• Knowledge of tribal, state, and federal laws about domestic violence.
• Knowledge of records management, case management, and basic accounting procedures.
• Ability to work evenings and/or weekends, extended hours, irregular shifts, and travel may be required.
• Ability to take an average of 18 weeks of On-Call responsibilities each year.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
• Proficiency in event planning and community outreach
• Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
• Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
