The Utilities Operations Supervisor demonstrates consistent application of technical knowledge and/or regulatory knowledge in all/some of the following Engineering disciplines; Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Process. Develops technical, engineering and manufacturing standards/programs. Meets customer needs in support of business goals. 

Responsible for safety, regulatory and/or environmental compliance. Assures continuous improvement of processes. Uses expertise gained through wide exposure in previous assignments and experience by focusing on areas for planning, scheduling, organizing, performance management, financial management, administrative skills, QA, regulatory and validation. 

 

Utility Operations Supervisors perform operation of the site utilities on a 24/7 basis.  They are responsible for executing critical utility cGMP, OSHA, PSM/EPA driven Standard Operating Procedures; executing non-GXP production critical Utilities Operations Procedures and providing response to life safety system alarms including Emergency Response.  Responsibilities include but not limited to: Supervision of utility shift operators, contractors working in utility areas; hands on operations, maintenance and troubleshooting, emergency response, employee performance management.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Sought for counsel within field of expertise for all/some of the following areas of Engineering:  Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Process, depending on the department.   Assigned to one or more areas of Engineering within the company:  Project, Plant & Reliability or Utilities.
• Leads the planning and organization of specific job assignments
• Coaches and teaches junior members of the department and provides input to performance evaluations.
• Resolves conflicts within area of responsibility.
• Demonstrates the ability to compromise and reach consensus in areas of responsibility
• Begins to manage balance between technical and management issues using multiple skill sets (analyzing, evaluating, creating, reasoning and reaching conclusion) and can meet changing priorities.
• Prioritize both scheduled and unscheduled work to assure a minimum impact of production operations while using the most cost effective and compliant methods
• Manage and balance technicians' PTO to ensure adequate plant coverage
• Review work orders/Logbook entries in the computerized maintenance management system to ensure accuracy, clear and concise comments, making any updates or corrections as needed.
• provide oversight to ensure standard operating procedure/utility operating procedures are followed in accordance to safety, regulatory and engineering guidelines.
• Supervise subordinates to assure compliance with OSHA and HES policies and procedures as performed during troubleshooting, shutdown and project activities
• Conduct safety meetings and area inspections
• Support/Contribute/Communicate long and short term goals for utilities operation.
• Respond to critical issues on a 24/7 basis
• Ensure the work force has proper training and certifications. Train and develop technicians to the highest level of their ability
• Creates positive relationships and engages with staff to inspire them to meet/exceed expectations and goals on a daily basis
• Review and approve ADP time sheets
• Conduct performance evaluations
• Contribute and take responsibility for continuous improvement, system improvements and capital projects.
• Emergency response to hazardous material release/incidents will require quick analysis and corrective action to prevent personnel injury and material damage. Response must be in strict compliance with site safety and environmental procedures to avoid non-compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations. The ability to determine when it is necessary to notify authority is critical. Hazardous materials would include ammonia, ethanol, acetone, mercury, waste streams, various treatment chemicals, fuel and PEG, Freon 22, 134A, 404, 507 magnesium hydroxide and chlorine. Utilities Operations Supervisors are designated as potential Incident Commanders during a emergency response.
• Develops skills in reporting technical/non-technical status across of levels of production/business partners.
