About the role

CompuNet Phlebotomists provide prompt and courteous customer service as they interact with patients and collect specimens through the venipuncture procedure. They represent all of our laboratory professionals who handle, test, and report laboratory findings to physicians and other caregivers.

Outpatient Phlebotomist - Patient Service Centers (Physician Office Style Setting Part-Time Day Shift (7:30a-5:00pm) working 32 hours per week with Saturday Weekend Rotations.

Locations: Springfield, Fairborn

Position Summary:

The Phlebotomists/Processor collects, and processes laboratory specimens in Sunquest 8.1.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures according to PSC policy with a 99% or higher level of accuracy. Able to collect specimens from patients of all ages.
• Collect urine drug screens, completing chain of custody forms per policy.
• Complete electronic and manual requisitions accurately following all Patient Services procedures/policies.
• Follow proper procedures for patient identification and specimen handling
• Accurately label and prepare specimens for instrument ready testing
• Ensure billing information is complete and correct.
• Is trained, proficient and regularly collects PCR nasopharyngeal swabs and or performs POCT testing and resulting to be a Level III.
• Retrieve specimens from the draw rooms
• Ensure specimens are spun and/or processed per the Directory of Service
• Perform Specimen Receipt functions in Sunquest 8.1
• Perform Specimen Decant functions in Sunquest 8.1
• Ensure specimens are stored at the proper temperature per the Directory of Service
• Prepare Specimen Batches in Sunquest 8.1 for transport to testing locations
• Organize and expedite the flow of orders and specimens within the PSC/IOP
• Assist with problem-solving as related to patient draws, orders, and specimens
• Operate and maintain departmental equipment, including but not limited to, centrifuges, label printers and printers.
• Communicate in a courteous and efficient manner, demonstrating positive customer service skills at all times.
• Perform regular inventory checks and stock work area with supplies
• Assist in training new employees, when requested
• Follow regulatory requirements, corporate integrity standards and all departmental policies and procedures, including universal precautions, isolation and sharps/biohazard waste disposal
• Perform other job duties as requested


Qualifications:

• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
• Must have recent phlebotomy training or experience, with at least 100 venipunctures completed.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Physical demands and work environment:

• Must be able to stand the majority of the shift

• Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals
• Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.
• Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
• Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
• Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness.
