Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position serves as the Director of the Public Health Nutrition Program for the Department of Health in Collier County and is responsible for the management of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and any funded comprehensive nutrition program activities. This position spends majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets. Contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and processes improvements and participation in performance management committees, councils, and/or workgroups. This position reports to the Community Health Promotion Division Director.  This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, M-F, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.  

 

Directs and oversees all WIC functions and program services to ensure consistent adherence with state and federal regulations.  Incumbent is expected to comply with and ensure staff’s compliance with all WIC and DOH operating procedures and directives including information materials and equipment security. The incumbent of this position is responsible for administrative activities relating to WIC including budget preparation, mentoring and supervision of employees and collaborating with community partners. Responsible for the supervision of staff Including appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave and having the authority for hiring and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions.   

 

Plans, manages, directs, coordinates, promotes, implements and evaluates professional and administrative functions within the WIC Program and any other funded comprehensive nutrition and breastfeeding programs. Advocates for and plans new program initiatives and or services based on available non-WIC funding for identified nutritional need in the agency/community. Directly oversees all nutritional program plan reviews and compliance audits. Integrates maternal and child nutrition services with appropriate health department programs and other community programs. Monitors on-site operations of WIC services at all Collier WIC sites (Naples and Immokalee) and program compliance through delegated quality assurance reviews. Assures agency inventories instruments formulas and equipment are maintained per state and federal guidelines.

 

Prepares, justifies, and manages the annual budget for nutrition and breastfeeding program services and ensures appropriate fiscal implementation and accountability. Monitors program expenditures with allocation and oversees monthly reconciliation with the financial system. Determines staffing needs, initiates, coordinates and implements personnel recruitment and work assignments. Recommends transfers, promotions, and separations from services. Responsible for succession plans and mentoring activities.

 

Monitors WIC program operations to ensure operation of service is maintained within State and Federal guidelines and facilitates appropriate corrective action as required. Develops the comprehensive Nutrition Program Plan and assures that it meets standards established by the State office. Monitors completion of goals and objectives and assures that reports are submitted as required. Monitors program according to established objectives and/or specific regulations.  Analyzes and evaluates WIC program data and assesses community needs to develop nutritional objectives, program goals, priorities, and target population groups for new initiatives, or programs.
