Job Description:

LSU school of Veterinary Medicine seeks a highly qualified candidate for a Research Associate position. This position will serve the Center for Lung Biology and Disease (in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences) to assist the COBRE funded investigators to perform bacterial pnemonia related research. Research Associate will be supervised by Dr. Tirumalai Rangasamy (Department of Pathobiological Sciences).

Job Responsibilities:

80% - The Research Associate will be assisting COBRE funded investigators on bacterial preparation, bacterial inoculation, development of bacterial pneumonia in mice, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid collection, enumeration of bacterial burden in different organs of mice, phagocytosis assays, generation/purification of macrophages and neutrophils from bone marrow cells of mice, isolation of alveolar type II epithelial cells from mice, and measurement of lung injury in mice using Metamorph software program. Research associate will also do routine lab duties such as cleaning refrigerators and freezers, maintenance of mouse colonies, and disposal of carcasses. 

15% - Using Excel. word, powerpoint and photoshop softwares for data entry and data analysis. Using workday for ordering items and clearing receipts.

5% - Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related exprience

Specific Experience: Must have experience in animal handling in a research lab and must have laboratory skills such as cell culture and maintenance, bacterial preparation, and flow cytomery.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree

Special and Physical Qualifications:

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Ability and willingness to work some holidays (flexible scheduling of hours may be available).
Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

Operation Essential Personnel - This position may be asked to work during an official closure, but who is otherwise not required to report to the physical campus during a closure and whose absence does not present a risk to the safety, resources, and well-being of the campus per FASOP HR-01.

Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching above the shoulder, reaching below the shoulder, vision near sight, vision far sight, and pushing/pulling.
