POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Senior Staff Counsel role will provide strategic legal support as a key partner for procurement needs across a variety of business functions. The ideal candidate will bring 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, exceptional contract drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Senior Staff Counsel will support the organization on a wide variety of matters with primary focus on providing legal assistance with vendor contracting and other various operational matters on an as-needed basis. They must be able to handle a high volume of requests while being collaborative and a partner to bring matters to a timely conclusion,
Detailed Responsibilities:
• Lead legal efforts on contract issues, drafting agreements, negotiating, and overseeing the administration of contracts (e.g., vendor agreements, consulting agreements, software/cloud and other business agreements, as necessary).
• Negotiate and draft AI-related language in contracts, advise on AI-related legal risks and collaborate cross-functionally to establish and implement compliant AI practices, identify and assess rapidly evolving AI legal requirements, and evangelize the legal considerations when developing, deploying and using AI technologies.
• Review contracts to identify privacy risks and draft language, including Data Processing Agreements, to ensure compliance with relevant privacy laws (e.g., CPRA, UK GDPR), provide strategic advice to practically manage privacy risks of new products, product features, and other product-related matters while supporting business needs, and conduct legal research on emerging privacy issues.
• Must be able to identify, mitigate, and explain risks to senior level executives.
• Responsible for managing outside counsel relationships.
• Other duties as required based on business and legal needs.
Additional Requirements
• J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and an active license to practice law.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Must possess excellent legal and business judgment, and able/willing to learn new areas of law.
• Solid contract drafting skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a demanding environment.
• Ability to prioritize, work without supervision, and effectively manage various matters with competing deadlines.
• Ability to provide business-oriented legal advice.
• Occasional travel possible.
