Leidos is seeking a talented Field Operations Team Lead to join our diverse team and create unique solutions to complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

Field Operations personnel provide on-site technical and sustainment support of existing hardware, software, network configurations and new system initiatives at supported customer sites.  They provide technical advice for supported products and services, support equipment, and electronic equipment installations.  They maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex systems, and determine the actions necessary to correct malfunctions or design issues.  Field Operations staff also provide guidance for the handling, installation, and utilization of various complex systems and equipment. 

This particular position leads sustainment and field support for the U.S. Army 1st Space Brigade’s space control systems. Work is performed at multiple customer locations in Colorado Springs, CO, and at deployed locations worldwide.  Contractors deploy with the system to provide on-site support as needed.  This position requires the candidate to lead a contractor sustainment team and work closely with military team members to support mission needs.  They must be knowledgeable of deployed operations where resources may be limited, and a great deal of ingenuity is often required to solve problems.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Field Operations Team Lead include:

  • Plan and lead field operations and technical support.
  • Train, organize, and review the work of contractor sustainment teams.
  • Develop and organize a training program to grow Leidos field operations technicians in their career paths and professional expertise for this and multiple future systems.
  • Mentor and coach mid-level and junior field operation technicians to improve their skills and competencies, leading the training path for the technical team.
  • Analyze and resolve complex Army SATCOM technical issues with the help of the field team.
  • Assist Sustainment Section Manager in developing processes that are scalable to meet emerging system growth and requirements.
  • Manage a field operations team as they identify and troubleshoot system problems.  Conduct tests using a wide range of instruments and test equipment.  Analyze results to restore systems or improve performance.  Document and report results.
  • Manage and perform routine, non-routine, and complex maintenance assignments for supported SATCOM systems.  This support includes the following sub-systems: communications, networking, antenna, power, timing, signal distribution, trucks, trailers, environmental control, and support equipment.
  • Manage and perform equipment assembly, configuration, installation, integration, calibration, and test.
  • Manage and provide technical advice, assistance, and maintenance services to military SATCOM operators and their managers.
  • Conduct site surveys in support of CONUS or OCONUS exercises and deployments.
  • Prepare technical and management documentation and reports.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation, mission engineering of all SATCOM equipment prior to CONUS or OCONUS operations.
  • Participate in training exercises and system deployments.
  • Ensure Field Operations personnel are deployment-ready. (Passports, visas, training, medical, security)
  • Assist engineers with system design, integration and test activities.
  • Assist the sustainment team with the procurement of equipment and parts.
  • Ensure that the field operations career path algins with the Colorado Springs Office strategic goals and objectives.
  • Implement and ensure adherence to operations, maintenance and organizational procedures and policies. Author, review, edit, and recommend changes to technical and procedural documentation.
  • Account for and ensure positive control of critical resources.
  • Manage the field operations team schedule and act quickly to assign resources to address mission requirements.
  • Manage workplace and personnel safety by identifying and mitigating risks and intervening to prevent mishaps.
  • Provide telephonic support as required to help isolate and resolve difficult issues.
  • Coordinate and conduct system and technical training.
  • Support customer outreach and business development activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus eight or more years of relevant work experience.  Additional experience and technical training may substitute for degree requirement. 
  • Five years of relevant space control experience. 
  • Three years of experience successfully leading a techn
