Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a Maintenance Worker  Power Plant to work at the Shawnee Correctional Center. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining all refrigerant units, boilers, and auxiliary equipment by lubricating pumps, blowing down boilers, regenerating water softeners, checking and regulating pressures. This position also instructs unskilled workers assigned to assist with tasks.  We invite all qualified individuals to apply. 

Essential Functions

  • Operates and maintains all refrigerant units, boilers, and auxiliary equipment by lubricating pumps, blowing down boilers, regenerating water softeners, checking and regulating pressures.
  • Assists and/or installs, repairs, and maintains all facility equipment and machinery.
  • Maintains records, charts, and log sheets on service time requirements for various equipment.
  • Assists other crafts in other areas of pneumatic controls, air handlers, hot water heating, domestic hot water, gas fired boilers, lift station, pumps and roof exhausters.
  • Instructs and directs unskilled workers assigned to assist with tasks.
  • Takes water test samples from various locations within the facility and forwards results to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintains daily control of tools and toxics completing usage reports and checkout logs.
