Oversee operation and maintenance of UNH’s complex, remote, and active marine research facilities to include Jackson Estuarine Laboratory, Judd Gregg Marine Research Complex, UNH buildings associated with Shoals Marine Laboratory, UNH research vessels and small boat fleet.
Duties/Responsibilities
Facilities Operations (85%)
Manage operations and maintenance of marine facilities, research vessels, and small boat fleet.
Facilitate research operations and provide lab/field support to scientists and students.
Research space allocation
Serve as a point of contact for policy-level marine facilities and operation’s needs.
Oversight of permit application and lease agreements for marine facilities.
Oversee and/or conduct unique training and safety briefings to facility users to include use of small boats, cranes, hoist and forklift and other equipment as necessary.

Hire, train, evaluate, and assign work to operational staff.
Administration/Fiscal (5%)
Develop and manage annual operating budgets for marine facilities and operations.
Serve as Chair of the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering Facilities Committee.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in marine science or engineering and 7 years of experience in marine science operations and/or facilities management.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license
USCG License or the ability to obtain one within a year
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Extension knowledge of the operations, maintenance and repair of vessels, marine field equipment and marine laboratory equipment.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage a budget.
A combination of experience and training including general construction, carpentry, diesel engines and generators, electrical and plumbing systems, drinking water, seawater and wastewater systems, vehicles, and small motors.
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work (up to 75 lbs.) with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary.
Willingness to respond to off-hour calls for emergencies.
Good communications skills, both oral and written.
Required to demonstrate proficiency of knowledge of University policies and procedures surrounding project work.
