JOB SUMMARY

As a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) working at Ellenville Regional Hospital, your primary duties would be to assist the Occupational Therapist (OT) in providing therapy services to our community, who require skilled OT services. This will involve implementing treatment plans developed by the OT, which may include exercises, activities of daily living (ADLs), and other therapies that promote the patients' physical and mental well-being. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring and recording the progress of patients, maintaining equipment, and communicating with other healthcare professionals involved in the patients' care to ensure the best possible outcomes.


SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (* = Essential Functions)

* 1. Properly assist patients in carrying out self care activities of daily living (ADL). Some of the self care ADLS include but are not limited to: grooming; oral hygiene; bathing/showering; toilet hygiene; dressing; feeding/eating. 

* 2. Educate patients on how to use adaptive equipment to assist with daily function.

* 3. Effectively report the patient's progress to the Occupational Therapist.

* 4. Properly break down activities into achievable components. Ex: sequencing a complex task like cooking a meal.

* 5. Independently follow treatment plan that was designed by the Occupational Therapist.

* 6. Work in collaboration with the Occupational therapist to establish a Care plan.

   7. Consistently give guidance to family members and caregivers, Nursing Assistants and RN staff.

   8. Properly document daily notes and billing in the electronic health record system.

   9. Assist with effectively developing a monthly activity calendar which is meaningful and pertinent to our Swing Bed unit patients.

  10. Effectively develop resources, with the Occupational Therapist, for the Swing bed patients in order to provide the best quality to our Swing Bed population.

  11. Supervise, plan and follow through on daily activities to entertain and engage patients. This facilitates a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in which to heal.

Hours:  Full-Time


Salary:  Base salary of $27.00 - $34.50 based on experience

Requirements

Required/Preferred:

  • Minimum 2 years of Outpatient Occupational Therapy experience required
  • Inpatient experience required

Education:

  • Graduation from an approved Certified Occupational Therapy Program
  • Passing examination for COTA from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT).

License/Certifications:

  • NYS License as a COTA
  • Must maintain BLS certification
