Job DescriptionVertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated is currently searching for temporary staff at the scientific associate level. The individual will conduct laboratory experiments, including those using automation, independently in a fast-paced environment. In addition, the individual will manage priorities, demonstrate good documentation skills and clearly communicate to a variety of stakeholders. A successful candidate will have solid understanding of physical organic chemistry and have lab experience in both crystallization and sample characterizations.
Key deliverables will include, among others:
- Solubility determination in organic/aqueous systems at controlled temperatures
- Solid form screening via crystallization, stable polymorph identification, phase diagram generation and salt/cocrystal formation
- Sample characterizations using a variety of solid state and physicochemical analytical techniques
- Documentation of experiments and results in laboratory notebooks in a timely fashion and in sufficient detail for replication
Desired skills include:
- Good understanding of drug development process
- Solid theoretical and experimental background in materials science
- Skills in all types of crystallization
- Expertise with XRPD, DSC, TGA, DVS, HPLC, and other solid state techniques
- Ability to develop strong partnerships/relationships across functional areas
- Exceptional written and oral communication
- Demonstrated scientific curiosity and self-motivation
Minimum Qualifications
- MS (or equivalent degree) or BS with 3 years of experience: majoring in organic/physical organic/supramolecular chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, nanotechnology, bioengineering, pharmaceutical science, analytical chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering
- Completion of Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry coursework and lab work

Pay Range
$50-$55/HR
