This is an IMMEDIATE OPENING for the 2025-2026 school year.
Assistant teacher for a group of 16 Kindergarten students. Each of the four Kindergarten classrooms is self-contained for instruction in Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies with a lead teacher and an assistant. The assistant teacher would work in close collaboration with the Kindergarten teacher to support student learning. In partnership with families, the assistant teacher works to understand, guide, nurture and challenge students as the children learn to think creatively and to work both cooperatively and independently.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

- Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty, Staff, or Administrator
- Assist in the classroom each day from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM
- Be fully involved in the life of a kindergarten classroom of 16-18 students
- Take responsibility for classroom set-up and supplies at the teacher’s request
- Plan and carry out lessons under the teacher’s supervision using the Orton Gillingham approach to reading and Singapore math curriculum
- Build relationships with students by observing and engaging in classroom lessons and activities; and supporting students one-on-one who may be struggling academically, behaviorally, or socially
- Provide supervision during open-ended play, recess, lunch, and field trips to ensure the safety of all students
- Attend and take part in parent conferences two times per year
- Assist with completing quarterly progress reports
- Attend all faculty meetings
- Participate in regular team meetings and faculty meetings for planning and curriculum design
- Engage in all teacher in-service and professional development
- Assist the lead teacher with planning and carrying out daily morning meetings using the Responsive Classroom approach
- Work with Reading Teacher to implement Orton Gillingham reading curriculum
- Work with Math Coach to implement Singapore math curriculum
- Helps with other Lower School and whole school duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
- Education – Bachelor’s degree required
- Prior teaching experience at the lower elementary level preferred
- Familiarity with Orton Gillingham, Singapore math, & Responsive Classroom preferred
- Basic/Intermediate understanding and ability to use computers and technology including Google Suite products, basic office equipment, projectors, mechanical equipment, etc.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co-workers, parents, alumnae, volunteers, and the public.
- Adaptability, honesty, self-reliance, teamwork, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, work ethic, determination, persistence, problem-solving skills, loyalty, and congeniality are essential.
