Position Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and highly capable Senior Windows Engineer to lead the architecture, deployment, and support of enterprise-scale Windows infrastructure across a healthcare network of 70 hospitals. This role will help design standardized solutions, troubleshoot complex system issues, and mentor junior engineers to ensure a robust, secure, and scalable IT environment.
As a senior-level technical expert, you’ll collaborate closely with cloud, network, security, and service management teams, and contribute to initiatives that drive automation, compliance, and infrastructure modernization.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Lead the design, standardization, and deployment of Windows Server infrastructure across multiple sites and data centers.
- Define system baselines, hardening policies, and configuration management standards.
- Architect solutions for AD forest/domain design, GPO structures, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Operations & Support
- Provide Tier 3 support for escalated issues related to Windows Servers, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Manage system patching, vulnerability remediation, and OS lifecycle management.
- Monitor infrastructure health and performance using enterprise tools (e.g., SCCM, SCOM, or similar).
Automation & Optimization
- Automate routine tasks and deployments using PowerShell or infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks; tune services for optimal reliability and speed.
- Support system integrations with cloud platforms (Azure, O365, hybrid AD environments).
Mentorship & Governance
- Act as a technical lead and mentor for junior Windows Engineers.
- Contribute to SOPs, technical documentation, and infrastructure runbooks.
- Support compliance with HIPAA and internal IT governance policies.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience as a Windows Systems Engineer in a large enterprise environment.
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022), Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO.
- Experience in high-availability environments and disaster recovery planning.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools (ServiceNow preferred) and change control processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect or Administrator Associate
- ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Additional Experience:
- Experience supporting hybrid AD and cloud integrations (Azure AD Connect, Intune).
- Prior experience in healthcare environments with HIPAA or HITRUST compliance.
Work Environment:
- Remote with optional travel to San Antonio, TX for collaborative initiatives or deployments.
- On-call participation for escalations or critical incidents may be required.
