JOB OVERVIEWThe CI Investment Services Inc (CIIS) Senior Fixed Income & Equity Trading Desk is responsible for trading all equities, options and fixed income products for CIIS.
Reporting to the Director and Head of Trading the Senior Equities, Options and Fixed Income Trader is responsible for executing retail and institutional trades on all North American exchanges ensuring best execution. This role involves equity and fixed income sourcing, execution, and allocations as they pertain to trades. This role is also responsible for handling general account inquiries from clients and educating them on the firms’ policies, procedures, and best practices.
Daily functions also include minimizing errors to reduce capital exposure, executing foreign exchange orders to maintain proper balances and monitoring general equity markets, news releases and economic data.
A key function of this role is adhering to and keeping abreast of changing rules and regulations from all areas of CIRO and more specially UMIR and trading rules and regulations.
The trader would also be responsible to report any activity that does not conform to the rules and regulations to the Head of Trading and Compliance. Service excellence along with speed and accuracy of trade execution are key contributors to success within this position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Execute, approve, and monitor all equity, options and fixed income orders submitted by clients.
- Handle telephone inquiries from clients on trading related matters.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external trading partners.
- Educate clients on trade desk policies, procedures, systems, best practices and adherence to securities rules and regulations.
- Collaborate with and mentor junior members of the trading team.
- Act as a subject matter expert and resource on trading related matters within the firm.
- Balance business needs against the policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations by understanding and assessing the business and regulatory risks.
- Exercise judgement in identifying issues, challenging courses of actions, assessing regulatory and financial risks: This role requires quick decision making and problem-solving skills.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- 5+ years related industry experience in a trading role.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Completion of the following courses required: Canadian Securities course (CSC), Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH), Trader Training Course (TTC), Derivatives Fundamental and Options Licensing Course (DFOL).
- The following licensing requirements are essential: currently registered or eligible to be registered with CIRO as an IR (Options) or RR (Options)
- Experience with Bloomberg, CBID and various OMS systems an asset.
- Proven analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service skills, negotiation /conflict resolution skills, written and verbal communication skills.
- General knowledge and understanding of world financial markets and overall investment process.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Self motivated but with desire to work as part of a highly cohesive team.
- Willingness to continually upgrade skills and education by completing the required CE requirements related to CIRO registration.
