Dow has an exciting part-time cooperative education job opportunity available at the Houston Dow Center in West Houston.
The position offers a flexible schedule including some remote hours. It is open to qualified and highly committed college students enrolled in a fully accredited college or university located near Houston. Unlike a short-term internship project outside of school terms, this particular role is a long-term, year-round, undergraduate student position — at least two full years in duration — while the student is simultaneously taking classes toward an undergraduate degree. This opportunity offers the student valuable professional work experience in a dynamic, multi-national corporation interfacing with colleagues and leaders in many different roles. This program is designed for academically successful students who meet ALL of the specific job and co-op program requirements listed below and who can simultaneously succeed both in school and in a professional work environment.
Job Purpose
The position exists to provide administrative and communications support to the Business Communications organization.
Key Job Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Assigned ownership of ongoing communications projects aligned to annual communications strategy
- Actively participate in monthly team meetings by providing project status
- Assist with submitting, filing, and tracking purchase orders and invoices in North America budget spreadsheet
- Provide event and campaign support including actively participating on planning team, helping with communications, ordering/sending supplies, and potentially provide on-site support for tradeshows and other special events
- Write, proofread and distribute internal communications
- Provide support for social media ambassador program by providing content for social media posts
- Schedule meetings and handle logistics as needed
- Copy/Scan/Fax as needed
- Order supplies as requested by the communications team
- Arrange travel for team including providing options/booking
- Serve as team focal point for sending/receiving packages
- Take on other communications projects/duties as requested by the team
Required & Preferred Qualifications
- While no particular academic major is required for this position, those pursuing Communications, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Marketing or Business majors are preferred and likely the best fit.
- Student must have excellent computer skills and preferably experience using Microsoft applications, particularly Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team are essential.
- Those with very good grammar and communication skills and with a high degree of organization would be most advantaged in this role.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task, prioritize and manage various responsibilities simultaneously is extremely important in this fast-paced working environment.
- Must be self-motivated and have a desire to do whatever is needed to assist the team and be able to adjust to changing priorities.
- A high degree of reliability and professionalism is expected in this role.
Critical Requirements of the Local Student Co-Op Program
- Must be 18 or older
- High school diploma/GED and already enrolled at an accredited college or university, pursuing an undergraduate degree.
- Successfully complete a minimum of 6 credit hours per term during both the Fall and Winter terms (~Sept-Apr).
- Seeking high performing student with strong GPAs of 3.000+ is preferred
- Able to begin work very soon, usually within 3 weeks of the job offer, and work year-round at least 16 hours each week ONLY during our regular business hours (7am-6pm, Mon-Fri…max 8 hours/day and 30/week during school).
