Project/Task Sr Manager (TS/SCI with Poly Required)

At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a Project/Task Sr Manager a typical day will include the following duties:

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for delivery of customer-focused software and IT projects. The candidate will work closely with other project managers and various software engineering, infrastructure, and technical operations teams to assess requirements, coordinate resources, and deliver projects for the customer. The ideal candidate should be a hands-on platform builder with significant experience in developing scalable software applications, with experience in analytics using large data sets and AI/ML technologies. They must have strong, firsthand technical expertise in a variety of configuration management and big data technologies and the proven ability to fashion robust solutions that can manage large data sets. The ideal candidate will have experience with backend database technologies and backend software development. They must be at ease working in an agile environment with little supervision. This person should embody a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Manage the software development lifecycle to ensure end-to-end system completion.
•  Assist with technical planning activities, to include roadmap development, systems integration and AI/ML initiatives.
•  Develop software solutions by understanding the needs of users, studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes.
• Work with a team to analyze existing applications and tools, and recommend new technologies and methodologies to improve system performance and usability.
• Write and update technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, training materials, processes and procedures.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, AI/ML engineers, data scientists, analysts, project managers and other technical teams to define project requirements and deliverables.
•  Collaborate with customers and contractors on a regular basis, which includes technical consultation, meeting support (e.g., TEMs), and preparation/support of technical briefings.
•  Oversee the development and implementation of AI/ML models and algorithms, ensuring they meet quality standards and project specifications.

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work/military experience.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

• Demonstrated experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy.
• Demonstrated experience managing a cross-functional team including data engineers, software developers, system administrators, and/or system/network engineers.
• Experience working within a technical environment handling modern software development projects.
• Understanding of AI/ML technologies, tools, and best practices.

 

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their AI/ML services.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with data engineering and its importance in AI/ML projects.
• Extensive knowledge of Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
• 3+ years of related experience in project management, with at least 1-year leading AI/ML projects.
• Ability to articulate complex AI/ML concepts to stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.
