Role Summary:
The Process and Systems Lead Senior Director, Medical Operations (Lead, P&S) is a leadership role within Global Medical and Value Capabilities (GMVC) in Global Medical and Scientific Affairs (GMSA) that reports directly to the Executive Director (ED) Global Medical Operations Lead.
The Lead, P&S is responsible for managing people and building optimal teams and talent.
The Lead, P&S improves the current technology portfolio and proactively anticipates future Medical Affairs technology needs before they arise.
The Lead, P&S is responsible for adopting an enterprise approach for technologies when appropriate, ensuring seamless integration and alignment across the organization.
The Lead, P&S leads several core Medical Affairs global initiatives, including, but not limited to: 1) enabling strategic priorities by directing the end-to-end stewardship and advancement of key processes that are powered by high-quality, innovative, and integrated systems 2) influencing and partnering with internal process owners, stakeholders and leaders across geographies, functions, and levels, as well as external strategic vendors/partners 3) furthering the vision of the Medical Affairs Capabilities by collaborating with key stakeholders to create and maintain the GMSA Digital Strategy, Roadmap and Architecture 4) ensuring appropriate prioritization and governance of related initiatives to obtain the agreed future state and 5) partnering with other functions and key stakeholders (i.e., IT, compliance, clinical, commercial) to plan and successfully execute related programs and projects.
The Lead, P&S possesses strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to manage & guide multiple teams & initiatives simultaneously, experience directing multi-level large organizations, and the ability to exercise influence without direct authority over a continuum of stakeholders.
Responsibilities and Primary Activities
Leadership
Understands the mission and vision of Medical Affairs as a science-driven and patient-committed organization
Manages, leads, and supports professional development of P&S team
Stays current with key initiatives across the company and supports fellow leadership colleagues and their teams in achieving deliverables against organizational priorities
Understands and executes end-to-end people- and performance-management activities as well as career development (e.g., mid- and year-end reviews, ongoing feedback, talent management, succession planning, recruitment, and retention)
Oversees complex initiatives with global scope and impact aligned with key company priorities
Exhibits a high degree of collaboration with partners and stakeholders to ensure alignment across the broader organization
Presents ongoing strategic project updates at leadership team meetings as well as at other relevant forums (e.g., Summits, Townhalls, Operations Reviews, Priority Project meetings)
Exhibits executive presence, deep subject matter expertise, and strong business acumen
Process and Systems
Enables strategic priorities by directing the end-to-end stewardship and advancement of key processes that are powered by high-quality, integrated systems. Processes include but are not limited to:

o Evidence Generation and Non-interventional Studies (NIS)
Drives a culture change in the organization toward principle-based global processes and a quality systems mindset for key activities. Enables the awareness, understanding, buy-in, and support through change-management activities
Directs innovative initiatives at all levels of the organization, independent of therapeutic area (TA)
Ensures coordination between the regions and TAs (Oncology, General Medicine, Vaccines and Infectious Diseases) to drive consistency in approach and implementation
Designs and delivers effective cross-fertilization mechanisms to identify best practices and rolls them out on a global basis where appropriate
Partners with organizational leadership and IT on the development of the Medical Affairs Digital Strategy, Roadmap and Architecture
