Assistant Track & Field Coach

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Coach to join our NCAA Division 1 Cross Country and Track and Field program. This position will focus primarily on recruiting, coaching and developing sprinters/hurdlers within our program. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in sprinting and a commitment to fostering both athletic and personal development in all student-athletes. 

Responsibilities: 

1. Training and Coaching: 

○ Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for sprinters and hurdlers, focusing on both individual and team goals. 

○ Conduct regular practice sessions, providing technical expertise, motivation, and guidance in all aspects of sprinting and hurdling. 

2. Recruitment and Scouting: 

○ Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting talented sprinters and hurdlers who fit the program’s athletic and academic standards. 

○ Maintain relationships with high school coaches, athletes, and scouting networks to identify prospective student-athletes. 

3. Athlete Development: 

○ Monitor and evaluate the performance and progress of athletes through performance analysis and regular assessments. 

○ Provide feedback and guidance to athletes on technical skills, race strategies, and mental preparation. 

4. Academic Support and Compliance: 

○ Monitor the academic progress and well-being of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA academic eligibility requirements. 

○ Collaborate with academic support services to facilitate academic success among team members. 

5. Team Administration: 

○ Assist in the planning and organization of team travel. 

○ Assist in the planning and organization of equipment purchase and distribution. 

○ Contribute to the overall administration of the cross country and track and field program as assigned by the head coach. 

6. Promotion and Public Relations: 

○ Assist in promoting the program through various media channels, community engagement, and alumni relations.

○ Support fundraising efforts and participate in public relations activities to enhance the program’s visibility and support. 

Qualifications: 

● Bachelor’s degree 

● Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level working with sprinters and hurdlers. 

● Strong understanding of sprint and hurdling training methodologies, techniques, and strategies. 

● Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 

● Ability to work effectively within a team environment and support the head coach’s vision and goals. 

● Commitment to NCAA rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics. 

Additional Information: This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience. The Assistant Coach will report directly to the Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field. The role requires a flexible schedule, including weekends and travel during the competitive season.
