About the role
Postdoctoral Fellow
Project ’Exploration of Magnetic Topologies by Neutron Scattering’
The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2200 people. For the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging and funded by a SNF project grant we are looking for a
Your tasks
Analyse experimental data collected by neutron scattering techniques on magnetic structures and magnetic excitations of materials that may host topological textures and/or excitations. Assist in the experiments in close collaboration with PhD students working on the project. Develop interpretations using analytical and numerical models; develop methodology to study topological properties of the magnon band structure. Present research outcomes in publications and at workshops/ conferences.
Your profile
PhD degree in physics or physical chemistry, knowledge of solid state physics, magnetism and computational crystallography are mandatory. A high level of proficiency in numerical data analysis, computer simulations and scattering techniques is advantageous. Good communication skills, ability to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research team are necessary.
We offer
You will work at the world distinguished neutron scattering facility with strong in-house and external theoretical support.
Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.
