Packaging Machine Operator (12hr nights)

About the role

Job Summary:

Operates high speed and manual packaging machines in a fast paced environment to produce quality products that meet customer expectations of FDA regulated medical devices. The “finished goods” contact lenses ready for end-user consumption; finished goods produced will fulfill orders internal/external to CooperVision, domestically as well as internationally.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

  • Gathers silver stock and verifies material needed for campaign production orders
  • Loads verified silver stock into packaging machine to complete production
  • Performs packaging and software operations including interfacing with machine HMI’s
  • Interfaces with various packaging applications to include GPSII and RedZone
  • Understands, acknowledges and follows all Quality requirements, SOP’s (standard operating procedures) and WI’s (work instructions)
  • Understands and follows all company and department policies and safety guidelines
  • Understands equipment verbiage
  • Consistently uses best machine operating practices
  • Follows GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Follows production schedule
  • Works in a team environment
  • Performs other duties as required

  • Demonstrated ability to mulita-task in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Performs startup and shutdown of machinery as needed
  • Reports malfunctions or errors to supervising staff immediately and relays important information about the issue to the maintenance technician; validates that the machines running properly after maintenance has completed their action item
  • Performs routine checks on packaging machinery to ensure it is completely functional and safe to operate
  • Completes routine quality checks to ensure that product produced meets or exceeds corporate quality standards
  • As business needs dictates, operator may spend 100% of the day performing one particular task or may spend 50% of the day performing one task and the other 50% performing a second task
  • Works scheduled hours and is ready to work at designated start times to include mandatory overtime as needed
  • Immediately informs coordinator/supervisor of safety, sanitation and equipment failure
  • Seeks assistance from coordinator/supervisor in identifying and reporting problems or concerns relating to job function
  • Maintains a clean working environment
  • Adapts readily to changes in workload, priorities, staffing and scheduling
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures
  • Exhibits good communication skills – verbal, written and comprehension of the English language

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in packaging equipment 
  • Understands the application used in the department to include Redzone, GPSII
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math to include adding, subtracting, multiplication, division 
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and comprehension of the English language

Work Environment:

Noisy conditions  -- Greater than 75%

Dusty conditions  -- Greater than 75%

Hot, Humid conditions –exposure to extreme seasonal temperatures  – Less than 75%

Work near moving mechanical parts – Greater than 50%

Standing --  Greater than 75%

Sitting -- Less than 25%

Walking -- Greater than 75%

Bending – Bend forward at waist to touch object at 6” above floor -- Greater than 75%

Stooping/Couching -- Greater than 75%

Kneeling – kneel on 1 or both knees for critical time period – 1-3 minutes   -- Less than 25%

Squatting – Bend at knees to touch/grasp object 2” above floor level  -- Greater than 75%

Twisting -- Greater than 50%

Pushing/Pulling – 25# force -- Greater than 75%

Reaching over an obstacle 48” high to grasp an object at same height a  distance away from obstacle of 18”      

Hand/Eye coordination  -- Greater than 75%

Finger/Wrist dexterity  --  Greater than 75%

Grasping/Pinching  -- Greater than 75%

Coupling – Grip with dominant hand – 30# force -- Greater than 75%

Hearing -- Greater than 75%

Lifting up to 25 lbs.  -- 50 – 75%

Experience:

  • Experience with basic course work in mathematics, PC and business understanding or equivalent training and/or experience required
  • Basic computer skills necessary for packaging software required
  • Ability and dexterity to handle small items
  • Experience with medical device manufacturing and/or packaging in a FDA compliant environment
  • Two years of manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred
