Job Description:

As a Facilities Project Manager at Southwest Airlines, you’ll lead capital projects across our locations—from planning and design to build and close. You’ll join our Corporate Facilities Projects Team, where you'll manage multiple projects at once, keeping budgets, timelines, and scope on track while coordinating with vendors and internal teams. In this role, you’ll negotiate contracts, oversee construction progress, and ensure spaces meet operational needs efficiently and safely. Your work helps create and maintain facilities that support our People and Customers—keeping Southwest running smoothly every day.

Responsibilities
  • Assess current or future Customer needs and priorities by communicating directly with Customers, or other methods
  • Manage project execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope
  • Complete project deliverables, ensuring adherence to standards
  • Define and drive complex program plans for multiple, simultaneous, related projects or for a single highly complex project
  • Initiate, review, or approve modifications to project plans
  • Identify, review, or select vendors or consultants to meet project needs
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings related to Facilities projects
  • Analyze and negotiate contract terms and conditions utilizing a working knowledge of contract styles, developing a strategy, and making recommendations in order to asses compliance with corporate policies and objectives and mitigate corporate risk
  • Evaluate economy and efficiency of space utilization by defining potential changes in function, workflow, future plans for expansion, value engineering, and architectural guidelines in order to develop proposals for better utilization
  • Direct the preparation of technical drawings to ensure customer/operational needs are met, Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) standards are documented and implemented appropriately, and the budget is utilized efficiently
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of business and construction management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of contract administration, including types of contracts and enforcing contracts
  • Knowledge of construction techniques
  • Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
  • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience
  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Managing construction projects
    • Managing construction contracts
    • Managing project cost
  • Preferred: Knowledge/Experience with AutoDesk suite
  • Preferred: Knowledge/Experience with Bluebeam
  • Preferred: Knowledge/Experience with eBuilder or similar project/construction management tool(s)
