Medical Assist-MRI

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant, Magnetic Resonance (MRI), provides medical assistance, administrative and secretarial support for the Pre Anesthesia Consultation and work up for MRI under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), and/or Medical Doctor (MD)/Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), and Radiologic Technologist (RT) in the outpatient environment to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific (infant, toddler, preschooler, school age, adolescent, young adult, middle adult, older adult) direct and indirect patient care within the designated scope of practice.  Performs procedures, e.g., vital signs, ambulation and transfers.  Transports patients to or from the ancillary department for diagnostic testing.  Follows policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines; seeks information and clarification when necessary.  Assists clinical staff with rooming patients and other clinical duties within scope of practice.  Maintains rooms and assist with ensuring efficient MRI operations.  Rotates as requested among administrative roles, e.g., chart preparation, front desk or scheduling, and gathering.  Takes detailed messages and follow-up appropriately.  Retrieves test results and ensures test results are available for MD and/or CRNA review during patient visit.  Performs duties using electronic systems and applications as required for the position.  Utilizes critical thinking skills to resolve issues obstructing effective office and department operations.  Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service and professionalism.  Promotes a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: High school Diploma or GED required.  Completion of Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, completion of School of Nursing fundamentals required or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.  Previous experience in the clinic or acute care setting preferred.

Licensures and Certifications: Medical Assistant certification, Medical Assistant diploma, or Certified Nursing Assistant or other healthcare training certificate required (EMT); exception: completion of School of Nursing fundamentals.  Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
