About the role

Overview

The Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics (MONUM) was formed in 2010 as the Mayor's civic innovation team – one of the first municipal teams in the nation. MONUM is the City of Boston’s engine for experimentation with agency partners and external organizations to examine systems and land on policies, processes, and prototypes that operationalize ideas that positively impact the lives of Boston residents. See the team’s portfolio of work from last year here.

MONUM is seeking a Communications and Design Intern who will join our nimble team of the civically curious. In particular, we’re eager to have the Communications and Design Intern support the storytelling of our work, to engage the public, and share the wins inside and outside of City Hall. We encourage exploration - the Intern will experiment with new digital and physical tools to craft engaging narratives.

Under the guidance of MONUM staff, the Intern will also support a diverse set of projects spread across different city departments and external partners. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with City leadership, develop narratives in a deeply collaborative environment, and pitch in on projects that improve the lives of Bostonians.

The Communications and Design Intern will work up to 14 hours per week at a rate of $20 per hour. This is an in-person role.
