About this role
The Head of Safety provides subject matter expertise, develops, and supports implementation of safety strategies and programs which meet or exceed industry best practice to manage safety risks.
Your role will consist of
Growth Strategy/Governance
Identify and analyse current and emerging safety risks to inform enterprise safety and BU risk profile and strategy.
Develop and support implementation of safety standards, systems, processes and tools within BU and sites.
Design, monitor, analyse safety performance metrics for the business and regulatory requirements.
Design compliance systems to provide appropriate assurance and governance, feedback and drive continuous improvement.
Integrate safety systems and processes within broader business programmes.
Champion safety within the business to enhance understanding and prioritize risk reduction
Operations Excellence
Design and development of enterprise safety strategy and programs.
Develop fit for purpose safety content in line with enterprise safety strategy, BU and site requirements. Taking into account potential differences between operations, project and exploration.
Develop and support implementation of Safe, Healthy and Equitable workplace program elements.
Lead enterprise wide safety improvement projects to address systemic risks and opportunities.
Integration of safety monitoring programs, such as OSN, to deliver key insights and deliver operating efficiencies.
Provide SME advice and support to allow Enterprise, BU and sites to effectively manage safety risks.
Support/coach leaders in implementing programs to identify/eliminate/reduce safety risks
Collaborate with Enterprise, BU, site and safety and health leaders to determine suitability of initiatives, identify opportunities of improvement in existing or future initiatives.
Monitor, analyse enterprise, BU, site and industry trends and safety performance metrics To create a step change in enterprise safety risk profile and external reputation.
Lead material safety investigations and provide oversight of safety investigations and learning effectiveness across the enterprise, BU and sites.
Ensure safety systems/software are implemented, sustained and provide desired outcomes.
Working cross functionally with peers to align/inject safety requirements to improve efficiency and reduce duplication
Implementation of safety requirements into study/stage requirements, technical support to teams to meet expectations of standards and support variance process.

Support enterprise safety, health, environmental and sustainability policies, standards and procedures are implemented.
Identify, implement and sustain external partnerships to promote safety related enterprise ESG credentials
People
Lead and manage the safety group team, aligning effective leadership and team member processes and accountabilities.
Provide safety functional leadership, coaching and mentoring. To develop functional capability, expertise and succession planning.
Foster a safe, healthy and equitable workplace. Build impactful working relationships internally within the function and peers and external stakeholders.
Commercial
Develop of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
Balance the cost of initiatives, improvement in managing safety risk versus cost to enterprise, BU or site.
Your training, skills, and experience checklist
Knowledge:
Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering or safety
Deep knowledge and understanding of safety legislation and global principles
Extensive experience in mining operating environments or heavy industry
Demonstrated ability to implement safety programmes across global organisation
