The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Creative and Design Specialist activates the University’s brand by creating strategic print and digital design that positions the University as a leading institution of global consequence and advances the institutions strategic fundraising and engagement goals. This position provides creative and graphic design services for a range of print and digital platforms servicing all University Advancement programs and partners, including the For Ever Better Campaign, Marketing Communications and Donor Engagement, Special Events, Alumni Relations, and Annual Giving Programs as well as the fundraising and engagement programs for all undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, and the Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Produces custom creative solutions for Advancement programs. Executes original and templated designs for a wide range of projects with guidance from Director of Creative Strategy. Transforms ideas, concepts, and information into compelling, appealing, visual designs that engage alumni, donors and friends.
  • Establishes project schedules and maintains on-time accountability. Works with printers, vendors, and designers. May direct staff in compilation of cost estimates and alternative budget proposals to meet client objectives within stated budget constraints. Routes estimates, layouts, and proofs for internal approvals. Ensures all resource and budget allocations meet the scope of work for each project. Documents the creative process for each project. Ensures direction is followed and revisions are made.
  • Works with editors and content strategists in the preparation of content. Works with design professionals and web developers on the preparation and execution of design and layouts. Gives final approval of art and graphics and personally conceptualizes and follows through on design for some projects.
  • Consults with clients about their needs, taking into account goals, audiences, aesthetics, platform, design, budget, timeline, and requirements for production specifications. Maintains a clear vision for each project and has a thorough understanding of the goals and anticipated outcomes. Assumes responsibility for quality control throughout projects and takes corrective actions as appropriate. Ensures projects are completed on time, error-free, and stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Consults with head of unit on policies and services. Represents the unit in consultation with University departments and individuals who are either clients or potential clients. Makes judgments about University graphic standards in consultation with the Director of Creative Strategy.
  • Coordinates and art directs select photoshoots in collaboration with Advancement colleagues and University partners.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3 years of professional graphic design experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strategic thinking, ability to understand client needs and provide counsel on design solutions required.
  • Knowledge of best design practices for multi-media materials, understanding of production processes for both multi-media projects required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • Ability to align to brand architecture for a large, diverse institution required.
  • Understanding of how visual assets work together to visually communicate important information required.
