About the Department

The Masters Program in Computer Science (MPCS) is a professionally-oriented MS in Computer Science degree program in the Department of Computer Science. Our mission is to provide students a deep foundation in computer science and the essential skills required for a successful career in technology. Our rigorous curriculum covers theory, programming, and applications. Graduates of the MPCS are in demand by top companies for their ability to contribute immediately in technically challenging roles as well as to adapt quickly to rapidly evolving technologies.

The MPCS program has several programs of study, including a 9-Course and MS in CS program, a 12-course specialization MS in CS program, a Pre-Doctoral MS in CS and a joint MBA/MPCS program with the Booth School of Business. Students can complete the MPCS full time or part time. Areas of focus for students include Application Development, Data Analytics, High Performance Computing and Software Engineering.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director of Admissions is a key member of the MPCS admissions and recruiting team. This role is responsible for program outreach, admissions evaluation, recruitment efforts, and managing the Pre-Doctoral MS in Computer Science admissions process. Additionally, the Associate Director will oversee conference management and execution for the Department of Computer Science.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and evaluate applicants for admission, including conducting interviews, reviewing applications, and summarizing evaluations. Perform these tasks independently.
• Serve as the primary contact for prospective students, responding to inquiries via email, phone, and virtual or in-person meetings.
• Deliver information sessions, specialized presentations, and participate in virtual and on-campus events for prospective students.
• Collaborate with the admissions committee to determine merit scholarships for applicants.
• Oversee and manage the Pre-Doctoral MS in CS review process, coordinating with CS faculty reviewers.
• High-level involvement in the development and distribution of monthly newsletters to keep students informed about program updates, events, and opportunities. Provide backup to the admissions and marketing team.
• Maintain access and involvement in the program’s social media channels, providing backup as needed to promote the program and inform our community across digital channels.
• Provide assistance in creating engaging content, including alumni profiles and student spotlights, to showcase the program and its impact.
• Participates in special projects such as developing marketing materials, monitoring budgets and recruiting underrepresented groups with moderate/high levels of authority.
• Lead the Department of Computer Science’s participation in annual conferences such as Grace Hopper and Tapia, while evaluating additional conferences (e.g., AfroTech, NSBE, SACNAS) for potential participation.
• Develop the conference budget, secure departmental sponsorships, and determine participant numbers (students, staff, and faculty).
• Manage the application process for students from CS Department Programs (PhD, MS-CAPP, MPCS) to be reviewed for conference selection. Manage the MPCS student selection, and assist with student selection for other programs.
• Coordinate with external partners (e.g., Fox World Travel) to book transportation and lodging for student and staff conference attendance.
• Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., College Career Services, Data Science Institute) to organize participation and ensure proper event preparation.
• Evaluate the success of conference attendance through post-conference surveys and interviews.
• Designs plans to increase brand awareness and alumni engagement as it relates to the College's admissions in the relevant region. Develops relationships with high schools and school counselors in the area. Plans and attends yield events, information sessions, and college fairs.
• Manages regional event programming such as receptions and career trek field trips for students. Works independently to expand outreach to employers in the region.
• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
