San Francisco University High School announces a full-time opening for the position of Breakthrough Summerbridge Program and College Access Manager. Breakthrough Summerbridge, founded in 1978 at San Francisco University High School (UHS), is a tuition-free, year-round intensive academic enrichment and advocacy program. Founded by Dennis Collins, former head of San Francisco University High School, and two pioneering faculty members, Lois Loufbourrow and Mal Singer, the program they envisioned would utilize the resources of University High School to serve the city of San Francisco. It is the flagship site of the Breakthrough Collaborative. Today, there are 24 Breakthrough programs around the country.
For over 45 years, Breakthrough Summerbridge has advanced three primary goals:
- Preparing ambitious middle school students from under-resourced circumstances to enter and thrive in well-matched high schools, for the purpose of securing admission to, succeeding in, and graduating from a four-year college
- Providing intensive summer teaching internships for high school and college students (Teaching Fellows) who are passionate about the power of education, and creating meaningful volunteer experiences throughout the academic year for members of the UHS and San Francisco communities
- Transforming lives through the unique and powerful relationship between the Breakthrough Summerbridge and UHS communities and their families

Requirements
The Position
The Program and College Access Manager is an administrative position for Breakthrough Summerbridge.
This position plays a key role in supporting the day to day administrative management including the coordination of essential systems and functions with technology, facilities and program operations.
The Program and College Access Manager position presents the unique opportunity to developand manage BTSB’s evolving transition to include high school and college bound programming in that will include advising and supporting students as they make the critical transition from middle to high school, navigate high school, and prepare for college.
Additionally the Program and College Access Manager plays a substantial role in leading the BTSB culture of spirit and coaching our summer Teaching Fellows as they plan and lead our All School Meetings (ASM), club activities, and summer events.
A successful Program and College Access Manager is a team player, passionate about supporting our students, adapts to changes, an adept multi-tasker, innovative in developing new programming and cultivating productive relationships with colleagues, students and families.
This position requires the availability to participate in evening and occasional weekend community-wide special events. The Program and College Access Manager collaborates closely with other Breakthrough Summerbridge staff members and reports to Breakthrough Summerbridge’s Executive Director.
Essential Duties
- Collaborate with all admin staff to ensure coordinated program delivery
- Serve as the operations coordinator
- Develop the college access programming and pilot its implementation
- Lead the College Access Program Saturday workshops (approx once a month)
- Manage summer Teaching Fellows in the planning and leading of non-academic summer program activities and events (All School Meetings and club, Spirit Time, Friday events, and Celebration)
- Support managing volunteer summer Non-Teaching Interns (NTIs)
- Serve liaison between BTSB and the UHS tech department
- Input and man
