Job Description
This position is responsible for repairing office furniture and equipment (e.g. staplers, file cabinets, cubicle set-ups and repair, locksmith services i.e. make keys, repairs locks on cabinets and locking mechanisms). Other duties include loading and unloading trucks, moving pallets, lifting boxes, moving carts with mail and other items. Driving a small truck and/or van to other local sites to work; and occasionally making deliveries and pick-ups at the Post Office.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Make repairs as needed to system furniture and customer property as directed by customer work orders. Ie, Repair desks, chairs, cubicles, panels and storage units.
- Determine maintenance needs and replaces wheels of rolling stock. Such as chair mechanisms, arms, bases and caster.
- Maintain parts inventory for use in daily repairs. Communicate parts needed to manager for ordering purposes.
- Maintain key inventory, key making equipment, and repairs locks as requested by customer work order.
- Assemble customer equipment as required by work order.
- Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Experience in office furniture repair, furniture installation, or related trades
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls
- Familiarity with hand and power tools
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Two (2) years of job-related experience including basic computer operations skills is required.
- Must be able to process routine reports, and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation, and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to travel, including regular travel to New York City (NYC)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with commercial furniture brands such as Steelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth, Knoll, etc.
- Experience with furniture locks or locksmith services
- Customer service or field service experience
- Forklift experience is a plus
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or fee; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel.
