Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is seeking a Trades / Utilities Worker Senior to safely provides basic journeyman level skilled support to Central Maintenance Unit in the areas of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and locksmith. This position will also provide assistance for maintenance services both inside and outside of secure perimeter of the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of general trades and ability to assist with performing electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, grounds, and locksmith duties with minimal assistance and guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Demonstrated ability to use all tools relative to maintenance trades.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and communicate instructions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to serve on-call during nights, weekends, and holidays, on a rotating basis.

Additional Considerations

  • Electrical or other related trades certificate/license.
