Job Description

 

Primary Purpose:
Oversee a team of locomotive experts and system locomotive shops to maintain a fleet of ~2800 locomotives to a high standard of reliability.  This position works with strategic teams, including OEMs, NS Sourcing, and Mechanical to evaluate future programs and maintenance activities to identify processes and component lifecycle.  

Principal Duties:

•  Use data driven analytics to recommend changes in design, modification, or changes in overhaul procedures to improve locomotive reliability.
• Evaluate the cost structure of reliability team recommendations to potential component life cycle changes and other modifications. 
• Provide recommendations to shops and Sr. Leadership for potential solutions or processes changes with regard to locomotive repair and maintenance. 
• Lead and direct a team of locomotive experts in an ongoing effort to evaluate locomotive health and potential solutions to systemic issues. 
• Guide the NS Reliability team in advancing predictive analytics and preventative maintenance.
• Promote the adoption of Agile methodology in advancing technology and processes.
• Work with OEM manufacturers to keep abreast of systemic maintenance issues and potential modifications to active locomotive fleet.
• Develop training and modification procedures to educate and guide field repair forces in the proper steps performing effective repair and diagnosis.  Work with the Training Center for system wide adoption.
• Develop a reliability team plan to perform routing shop visits to ensure processes and modifications are being conducted at the level established by written procedures. 
• Work with other NS groups to ensure alignment on future locomotive technology and modifications are consistent with the vision of all stakeholders (emissions, onboard technology, alternative fuels, etc...)
• Recommends changes in design, specification, modification, or changes in maintenance or overhaul procedures to improve locomotive reliability.
