Purpose

The Online Learning Technology Support Assistant provides essential support in reviewing and improving the accessibility of online course materials in the Canvas learning management system. The student worker will assist in identifying accessibility issues, adding alt text to images, ensuring videos include accurate captions and transcripts, and updating course content using Canvas tools. This role is ideal for students interested in education, instructional design, technology, or accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Review course content in Canvas to check for accessibility compliance (e.g., contrast, heading structure, link clarity).
  • Add or revise alternative (alt) text for images within course modules and content pages.
  • Upload and edit closed captions and transcripts for instructional videos using provided tools (e.g., Canvas Studio, Panopto, or YouTube).
  • Assist in updating technical components in Canvas, including file organization, page formatting, and navigation improvements.
  • Document completed tasks and report any issues to the supervising staff member.
  • Follow university accessibility guidelines and best practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of course materials and student information

Required Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented with strong written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including navigating web platforms and using Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to learn accessibility standards and Canvas features.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Canvas or another learning management system.
  • Interest or coursework in education, instructional technology, disability services, or design.
  • Experience with HTML and Javascript
  • Experience with video captioning tools or accessibility checkers is a plus.

Salary Range


$15.00
