Performs technical and semi-technical maintenance functions for the care and upkeep of City buildings and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Performs variety of skilled duties in building trades, painting, carpentry, commercial door repair, locksmithing, masonry, flooring replacement or other recognized crafts for the purpose of maintaining, repairing or remodeling city owned and operated buildings and facilities.
- Assists with citywide access control by repairing, replacing and maintaining commercial doors and locking devices, and cutting keys using a key-cutting machine.
- Completes remodeling and construction projects as assigned.
- Assists other trades staff when assigned with H.V.A.C. and other mechanical system tasks.
- Responsible for all maintenance and facility upkeep for assigned buildings.
- Works with City staff at each building site to provide a safe and presentable building environment both interiors and exteriors for the public and City workers.
- Required to be part of the Emergency Building Maintenance on-call rotation to make emergency service calls after normal business hours as needed.
- Utilizes the Cartegraph work order program and follows the necessary processes for proper operation of this program for assigned work orders.
- Operates light automotive equipment to travel to facilities throughout the City and to transport materials, furniture and equipment.
- Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE, a safety violation can be taken.
- Performs metal fabrication and welding as assigned
- Completes other facility maintenance repairs as needed.
- Requires regular and prompt attendance.
- All other duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Building and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Supervision Given: None
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Four years’ experience in general construction; to include experience in welding, carpentry, cabinetry, painting and framing.
- Preferred Qualifications: Commercial work experience preferred. Experience in a variety of building trades, plumbing, carpentry, maintenance and craft areas.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Special licenses as required for the position

- Must be able to interact with others in a positive and professional manner.
- Ability to provide quality customer service at all times.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must work as a team member with other Building and Maintenance staff to coordinate building operations and maintenance tasks as needed.
- Ability to be well organized and flexible.
- Mechanical ability in relation to basic building maintenance such as changing bulbs, hanging pictures, clearing clogged drains, etc.
- Knowledge of reading blueprints, specifications, and sketches.
- Ability to solve problems using practical mathematics.
- Skill in the use of tools, equipment, test equipment and materials related to the trade.
- Skill in safely operating a variety of equipment and maintaining safety standards.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to manage high work volumes and shift and readjust priorities.
- Ability to be on-call approximately once every two months (one-week duration).
- Post offer physical examination required.
- Background check required.
