This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. 

  • New York City: $105,000 - $125,000

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.  For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Tuesday through Thursday, weekly.

 

A day in the life

  • Drive daily financial operations for Betterment Securities, Betterment’s broker-dealer entity
    • Process corporate actions, including dividends, stock splits, & mergers, on a daily basis
    • Lead the full lifecycle of proxy voting, including reviewing ballots, ensuring compliance with governance policies, and submitting votes on behalf of clients
    • Onboard ETF, mutual fund, and equity tickers, including data validation, setup, and maintenance across internal systems; ensure accuracy in security master data, classification, and pricing; collaborate with custodians and vendors to resolve discrepancies and streamline onboarding processes
    • Collaborate closely with the broader Operations Team, Engineering, & external partners to identify & resolve discrepancies
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, investigate root causes, and collaborate with the Engineering Team to employ fixes
    • Work closely with Finance to complete monthly financial analysis
    • Collaborate with Compliance on regular and ad-hoc tasks
  • Interact with external partners or customers on an as-needed basis to resolve operational inquiries on accounts and processes
    • Work with key external partners to resolve data issues
    • Work with external auditors to complete SOC 1 and annual Broker-Dealer audits
    • Assist with regulatory exams and ad-hoc requests
  • Work cross-functionally to plan the integration of new product initiatives within the operational and regulatory frameworks applicable to Betterment Securities
  • Identify and suggest improvements to operational processes that make servicing customer requests, and the overall business, more efficient and scalable

 

What we’re looking for

  • Prior experience at a financial institution, preferably with mutual fund experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets, with experience in data analysis and reconciliation 
  • Ability to obtain a FINRA Series 7 license (including prerequisites)
  • Detail-oriented mindset and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and problem solve on the fly with little guidance
  • Good intuition and ability to assess unclear situations with limited information, while always doing what’s best for our customers
  • Strong, concise written and verb
