About the role

Understanding thrombus growth and rupture is important in cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment. However, it is a challenging multiscale multiphysics problem involving fluid flow, platelet adhesion and deformation, and blood coagulation. This project is to develop a multiscale model to predict thrombus growth and response under different flow conditions. Specifically, it will: 1) identify and investigate the impact of key dimensionless parameters on thrombus growth and structure considering flow, red blood cells, platelets, fibrin, von Willebrand factor; 2) to predict thrombus growth, rupture, and quantify its uncertainties in large scale vascular network using physics informed neural network (PINN) augmented one-dimensional models; 3) integrate the blood flow simulation with in-situ framework Ascent to enable large scale data real time visualization and bidirectional steering, particularly with a focus on porting the blood flow simulation to GPUs.
