1. Beard Grooming Policy
Officers may grow a beard no longer than one-half inch.

2. Tattoo Policy
All candidates are prohibited from having tattoos or any other visible markings on their faces or collarbones. The department may make exceptions for hands and neck tattoos upon review and approval.

3. Ride Along with a Marshal Video

4. Department Physical Fitness Sessions

One of the first events for each recruitment is the physical readiness test. Physical fitness is an important part of the peace officer job. If you need assistance with preparing for the test, consider joining our Academy Training Staff each Saturday morning for fitness sessions. Email your interest to dpsrecruitment@lasvegasnevada.gov


A. TESTING PROCESS (Applicant Status)

PHYSICAL READINESS TEST (Eligible List Placement)
The test for placing applicants on the eligible list is the Physical Readiness Test. The department's testing standards are listed below. This is a pass/fail test. We do not have a written exam.

  • Vertical Jump (15 inches)

  • Agility Run (19.5 seconds)

  • Sit-Ups (30 qualifying sit-ups in 60 seconds)

  • Push-Ups (23 qualifying push-ups; no time limit; but can rest in up position)

  • 300 Meter Run (68 seconds)

  • 1.5 Mile Run (16 minutes, 57 seconds)


B. DEPARTMENT ASSESSMENT PROCESS (Candidate Status)

What Happens After The Physical Readiness Test?
After passing the test, applicants should expect a very competitive background and assessment process which typically includes the following:

  • Background Investigation

  • Polygraph

  • Psychological Suitability Assessment

  • Medical Fit-for-Duty Examination

  • Drug Testing

  • Fingerprinting

  • Education & Work Experience Verification

  • Pre-Academy Physical Readiness Test
