The Opportunity

We are seeking a Paralegal – Discovery Specialist to join our firm. Within this position, you will be responsible for providing high-level support throughout all stages of discovery by working directly with case teams, Legal Technology, vendors, and clients. This position will be based in Washington, D.C. office and has a hybrid working schedule.

As the Paralegal – Discovery Specialist you will:

  • Provide support throughout all phases of litigation with a focus on discovery workflows, including document review, production, and depositions.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal Legal Technology team, vendors, attorneys, and clients regarding document collection, data processing, review, and production of documents.
  • Assist with preparation of privilege logs.
  • Monitor and track all document review activities, provides regular status updates, and metrics to case teams.
  • Conduct complex searching tasks in various electronic discovery platforms.
  • Develop creative solutions to utilize technology to work more efficiently.
  • Assist with complex tracking and data analysis projects.
  • Assist with preparation of chronologies and manage supporting documents and facts.
  • Assist with preparation for interviews, depositions, hearings, trials, and/or client meetings.
  • Utilize litigation support databases (e.g., Relativity) to organize, search, and analyze large volumes of electronic data.
  • Leverage litigation support databases to manage case data, perform searches, and generate reports.
  • Mentor junior paralegals to build technical skills related to discovery projects.
  • Ensure case files are maintained within Department-approved protocols and case management systems, and seek to improve workflows regarding storage and recall of electronic and paper files.
  • Maintain the integrity of client data and properly organize and manage electronic and paper files.
  • Assist case teams and paralegals across offices.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to ensure seamless coordination and to facilitate effective working relationships with others.
  • Manage Firm resources responsibly.
  • Comply with and understand Firm operation, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working on complex eDiscovery matters
  • Demonstrated project management experience, preferably in the context of eDiscovery
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to fluently navigate various electronic databases and document management systems, experience with Relativity required
  • Working knowledge of litigation support tools for deposition transcripts and exhibit management, chronology preparation and deadline tracking
  • Understands various litigation support applications with the ability to use technology to provide creative and efficient solutions
  • Knowledge of Firm operation, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to assume responsibility for assigned projects and tasks
  • Ability to assume leadership role on case teams
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
