At LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, we are on the lookout for a dynamic Cybersecurity Systems Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in revolutionizing the National Airspace System (NAS). This pivotal role will be integral in safeguarding the future of our national airspace by implementing advanced cybersecurity measures and working with innovative technologies to counter evolving threats. This position serves a key function as a systems engineer with skills in hardening networks, supporting security vulnerability scans and risk assessments, remediating Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and responding to security data calls from higher authority to ensure NAS systems remain secure. Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust cybersecurity solutions to protect NAS infrastructure.
- Analyze network diagrams for potential security vulnerabilities and recommend enhancements to mitigate system risks.
- Assess and support system Configuration Management (CM) activities, ensuring compliance with Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark standards in Windows, Linux and Cisco operative environments.
- Conduct routine hardware and software audits of servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures, and configuration guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance in the procurement of new equipment and services, and the installation, operation and maintenance of these equipment and services.
- Collaborate with vendors to evaluate, test and integrate innovative security tools and technologies, including the upgrades of technologies to address obsolescence and/or operating risks.
- Create HDR/PTR/DOC (Hardware Discrepancy Report/Program Trouble Report/Documentation Report) entries not related to a specific project into a FAA standard database.
- Ensure compliance with objectives and standards through effective FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS) lifecycle management.
- Develop and manage project system level requirements and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to meet project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide detailed technical briefings, papers, presentations and reports to senior leadership on program progress, opportunities and technical risks.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams at the FAA Tech Center and Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center to bolster security measures and mitigate risks. Assist the FAA Training Academy with maintaining coursework and labs.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, or computer from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Qualifications
- 6-10 years of relevant experience in cybersecurity engineering and/or security operations (Security Operations Center Analyst work).
- Proven experiences supporting FIPS-199 High Impact categorized operational systems.
- Experience configuring, operating and maintaining routers, switches and next generation firewalls (Palo Alto). Knowledgeable in the application of network protocols, including Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), Large Scale Virtual Private Networks (LSVPN) and network Access Control Lists (ACLs).
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of Bash and Python scripting and Splunk SPL command languages.
- Experience with Windows event logging and Linux audits.
- Experience as a Systems Administrator for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) including containers, virtualization and automation in Red Hat Satellite (RHS) and Ansible platforms.
- Experience performing complex infrastructure design, including planning of interactions of multiple applications.
- Expertise in security architecture, threat analysis, and security enhancements.

- Experience with FAA National Airspace System (NAS) operational systems, enterprise architecture, and the FAA's Acquisition Management System (AMS) processes.
- Telecommunications Service Provider experience.
