Job Overview

The Senior, Industrial Engineer optimizes Macy’s investment in automation and systems for a highly automated fulfillment center spanning over one million square feet. They develop and implement tools, methods, and processes to reduce waste, utilize data-driven decision-making, and promote effective lean problem-solving. The role requires a background in engineering disciplines and hands-on operational experience. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential for partnering with and leading the operations team.

 

What You Will Do

Automation System Analysis and Optimization:

• Analyze and understand existing automation systems, including robotics, conveyors, and automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies within these systems.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance the performance, reliability, and scalability of automation systems.

Operational Efficiency:

• Conduct time and motion studies to identify process improvement opportunities in warehouse operations.
• Apply lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to streamline operations, reduce waste, and boost productivity.
• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure operational goals are achieved or surpassed.

Process Improvement:

• Design and reengineer workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and safety in the warehouse.
• Lead and manage projects focused on enhancing warehouse automation and operations.
• Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to warehouse operations and automation systems.
• Create reports and dashboards to provide insights into operational performance and improvement opportunities.
• Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.

 

Skills You Will Need

Automation System Expertise: Proficiency in analyzing and understanding automation systems, including robotics, conveyors, and automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS).

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work with cross-functional teams to identify and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies in automation systems.

Operational Efficiency: Experience conducting time and motion studies and applying lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to enhance warehouse operations.

Process Improvement: Capability to design and reengineer workflows to boost efficiency, accuracy, and safety in the warehouse.

Data Analysis and Reporting: Competence in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, creating reports and dashboards, and presenting insights and recommendations to senior management.

Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of material handling systems, engineering economics, human factors, systems design, warehouse control systems, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Project.

Self-Direction: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and participate in high-exposure projects.
