Fund Accountant – Financial, Management


The Role & Key Responsibilities:

Supervise a team of fund accountants responsible for maintaining the accounting records for mutual funds and other related products and portfolios.  Manage team work flows to ensure accurate and timely recording of fund data.  Review and approve exception reporting.  Exercise judgment in the interpretation of accounting and fund policies and procedures.  Work with fund administration, transfer agency, compliance, custody and other service providers to help resolve matters and provide reporting.  Train staff and provide technical and professional development.

  • Manage staff in the daily calculation of mutual fund prices
  • Approve control and proof reconciliations and ensure timely resolution on exceptions;
  • Understand securities and accrual recognition;
  • Validate security valuations;
  • Review and approve NAV and yield calculations;
  • Analyze system outputs and validate exception reporting;
  • Train and develop personnel;
  • Understand and satisfy client expectations;
  • Enforce policies and procedures;
  • Ensure deliverables are produced and reviewed to a high standard, in accordance with fund documentation, regulatory requirements and policies and procedures and delivered timely;
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and fund service providers;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement process improvements;
  • Ensure all forms of communication are professional and appropriately address recipients;
  • Contribute to a healthy and positive working environment;
  • Provide cover to colleagues as required;
  • Complete required training; and
  • Act in accordance with the Apex’s Code of Conduct and follow company procedures.

Requirements

Skills Required:

  • Bachelors Degree with 5 to 7 years of mutual fund industry or financial reporting experience;
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and experience with FIS InvestOne;
  • Proven organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task;
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare high quality work;
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve;
  • Professional oral and written communication skills;
  • Developed keyboard/typing skills; and
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new software.
